Sun Mu made international headlines when he became the first North Korean defector artist to hold an exhibition in China. The story of his escape, his life as an artist in exile, and his preparation for the Beijing exhibition are the subject of Adam Sjöberg’s film ‘I Am Sun Mu,’ an “Official Selection” at American INSIGHT’s 2015 Free Speech Film Festival.

Under the surface,Moscow’s splendor is overcast with an unforgiving, distant demeanor and a dark past dominated by violence, patriarchy, and oppression. Carole Keeney Harrington, after her experiences writing and producing Pussy Riot: The Movement surmises, ”Russia is full of brilliantly intelligent and breathtakingly beautiful people, but the Russian people simply don’t know how to be free.”

The disconnect between the China of the West, the China of the Chinese, and China’s true history is what drove Nick Torrens to produce China’s 3Dreams, a documentary-style film that follows one woman’s quest for a meaningful existence in a reality that to her has always felt false.
